Financial Calculators: frequently asked questions
Which calculator should I use for a monthly loan payment?
Use the Loan Calculator or Payment Calculator for any fixed-rate loan. For a home loan with property tax, insurance and PMI, use the Mortgage Calculator. To see the full month-by-month breakdown of principal and interest, use the Amortization Calculator.
What is the difference between APR and interest rate?
The interest rate is the cost of borrowing the principal. APR (annual percentage rate) adds lender fees such as origination charges and points, then expresses the total as a yearly rate. That makes APR the better number for comparing loan offers. The APR Calculator converts a rate plus fees into the true APR.
Are the tax calculators up to date?
Yes. The Income Tax Calculator uses the 2026 federal brackets and standard deductions published by the IRS in Revenue Procedure 2025-32. We update tax figures every year when the IRS releases its inflation adjustments.
How is compound interest calculated?
Compound interest uses A = P(1 + r/n)^(n·t). P is the principal, r is the annual rate, n is the number of compounding periods per year and t is the number of years. The Compound Interest Calculator applies this formula and also adds regular monthly contributions.
Are these financial calculators free and private?
Yes. Every calculator is free with no sign-up, and all calculations run in your browser. Nothing you enter is sent to our servers.
